The Textile Edit | Winter Blankets & Throws

The Great British winter has well and truly taken a hold of us. And what better way to warm up than with a cosy blanket? When designing, I try to incorporate a blanket or a throw into living spaces to help soften up the space, add texture, and colour. But before all of that, I believe it is as essential as having something to snuggle up to as a blanket. A well-made and well-designed blanket is something you'll want to display in a room. Whether it's draped over the bottom of your bed, folded away on a stool, or in a well used heap on the end of the sofa, a blanket is a must during these cold winter days and nights. So here is a selection of some of my favourite blankets & throws.

Chamonix Oatmeal Faux Fur Throw by French Bedroom

Super soft faux fur makes this the ideal winter companion for socialising outdoors. The warmth of the faux fur combined with the pale oatmeal colour which sits between taupe and grey, makes it perfect for all rooms.

The ideal companion on a sofa or bed, style this faux fur throw on a rustic French rattan bed for a quintessentially romantic French look and warmth of texture combination.

Cashmere Blankets by Ava Innes

These cashmere throws are the ultimate luxurious piece to add to your home. They're perfect for snuggling up with and relaxing. Hand woven in the town of Elgin and hand finished by Fiona the seamstress, with luxury blends including cashmere with a touch of linen. These very special cashmere pieces are to be cherished for many years to come.

Mustard Yellow Big Waffle Bed Throw by The Secret Linen Store

Liven up your living space in one fell drape of this Mustard Yellow Big Waffle Bed Throw. Bold and bright, this throw is the perfect way to add a bold splash of colour and warmth to help brighten up a dreary winters day. Expertly crafted in Portugal from 100% cotton yarns, and is detailed by a subtly textured waffle weave and soft laundered finish.

Ecru and Dark Grey Recycled Cotton Throw by Beaumonde

Perfect throw for those looking to add a minimal touch of colour and pattern to their space. Made from recycled cotton, so you can snuggle up nice and warm knowing you've contributed a little something towards the environment.

Throw large soft cotton mix throw with colour block detail, ideal for a casual contemporary Scandinavian look.

Breton Stripe Wool Blanket by French Bedroom

This one's perfect for lounging around on winter days. Light yet warm, this is the ideal addition to any living room, bedroom or reading nook. Perfect over your legs, around your shoulders on cool evenings, or as a runner at the end of the bed for a bit of extra winter warmth.

Traditionally the Breton stripe was the uniform for French sailors, particularly so that men overboard could be easily located and retrieved.

Finnish Fine Stripe Wool Blankets by Objects Of Use

Where there is a Swedish blanket, there has to be a Finnish one. A woollen blanket cannot be beaten, can it? The texture and feel of a woollen blanket is out of the world. It's like sinking into a fluffy and soft cloud. A sensation like no other.

These blankets are woven in Lapua, Finland, at the workshops of Lapuan Kankurit, run by a fourth-generation weaving family. The mill was initially set up by husband and wife Juha and Liisa Hjelt but is now run by their son Esko and his wife Jaana.

Leia and Lucy Wool Blankets by Shepherd Of Sweden at Top Drawer

Scandinavian design has taken the world by a storm and they have got pretty famous for their love of textiles. If there is anyone I would trust to produce the perfect blanket, it would be the Scandinavians. This utterly gorgeous blanket is perfect for loving rooms and bedrooms. I can see this being draped over the end of a bed at night to keep feet warm.

'Shepherd of Sweden, founded in 1982, is a lifestyle company with offices and warehouses in Svenljunga and our own manufacturing in Europe. Our vision is to provide the market with the world’s most attractive brand for sheepskin and wool products with Scandinavian design.'

Kendal Herringbone Blues Merino Wool Blankets By The Fine Cotton Company

Blankets & Throws are a great way to add pops of texture and pattern into a space. And this gorgeous blanket has the right amount of colour and pattern to be a statement whilst being subtle, which is hard to come by and even harder to design. Yet The Fine Cotton Company has stuck the right balance with this luxurious and comforting merino lambswool blanket.

Recycled Wool Tartan Blankets by The Tartan Blanket Co. at Top Drawer

I have to admit I've always been a fan of a bit of tartan. The gorgeous array of colours is an added bonus. I've got a tartan blanket artfully draped over the back of my sofa, perfect to pull over and snuggle on a cold evening

Portofino Cotton Waffle Blanket or Throw by The Fine Cotton Company

Waffle blankets are the best way to add texture into a space. There's just something so cushiony and satisfying about the waffle texture which just elevates the sensation of wrapping up in a blanket. It feels almost cloud like.

Woven in the Portugal, this luxurious stone-washed cotton waffle throw in a range of colours is great for bedrooms, living rooms and out door spaces.

Bonnie Blush Faux Fur Blanket by French Bedroom

The softest faux fur blanket. Indulgently soft to the touch with a pale blush pink tone and reverse.

Great in the winter months to snuggle up on the sofa, keep knees warm during homework, reading your favourite magazine or evenings spent in front of the TV.

Rodion Soft Grey Recycled Cotton Throw by Beaumonde

A casual contemporary Scandinavian blanket is perfect for all. The Scandinavians really do rule the blanket industry in my opinion, if that wasn't already obvious. And this one made from recycled cotton ticks all the boxes and hits all the right spots. Perfect for sinking into with a mug of hot cocoa.
