So we're half way through 2018! Time has gone by so fast. And in the world of Interior Design, a whole bunch of things are being shaken up. It's taken a couple of months for this years trends to set in. Truth be told, there were a few things that took me a while to get my head around. However, I'm extremely excited about the stuff coming up over the next few months.
We're shifting away from what we've grown comfortable with over the past few years. Design is moving in a different direction this year and pains me to say this, but we're bidding farewell to a few of our most loved design trends. But on the plus side, it just means that we have more room to embrace the new.
With so many new trends coming onto the scene this year, it's hard to pick the favorites.All the new trends have staying power. But from what I've seen over the past few months, there are six trends which I think will change our approach to Interior Design. So here's part one of the refresher into the Interior Design Trends of 2018.
C O L O U R
The colour trends have, for the best part, been consistent over the past few years. We saw the introduction of a few new shades over the Autumn/Winter period of 2017/2018. But this year colour is having a major change up.
Cool and muted colours are to be replaced with bold, beautiful, vibrant colours. Carrying on with the jewel colour trend, we'll see the addition of yellows, oranges and reds. Think of bold blues, vibrant greens and glorious shades of deep purple.
Pantone have announced Ultra Violet as their colour of the year along with colours like Cherry Tomato, Lime Punch and Chilli Oil. Grey. White and pastel shades are so last season. It's time to step it up a notch, be brave and embrace the colour!

M E T A L L I C S
Rose gold was a huge trend which took the Interior Design world by a storm. Rose gold accessories and accents were everywhere and everyone loved it, including myself. Which is why it hurts a little bit to say that Rose Gold is on it's way out. The same with polished copper. both are being replaced by more Earthy and natural finish of metals.
We're going back to the basics, industrial metals, to juxtapose the intensity of the other design trends. No more polished and high shine finishes. Metals such as brass and brushed chrome will come to the front. These metals will work perfectly with the colours of the year. Balance is the key word that we need to pay attention to here. Metal accessories are to be used to bring balance into our rooms.

N A T U R A L & E A R T H Y
We are gradually moving away from the sleek and modern finishes of Interior Design. The past few years, Scandinavian design trends have been popular and in demand. So it comes as a bit of a surprise, to find that we are moving back towards the earthy and natural look. It's all about embracing nature, and bringing the outside inside, and not just with the use of colour.
Organic and sustainable, are two words which you'll come across more often this year. What is good for the environment is good for homes. There has been a lot of conversation and political discourse surrounding our use of plastics and synthetic materials over the past few months, especially in the UK. In light of this, many designers are embracing natural and organic materials. Wooden and reed furniture will be hitting the stores. And carpet is gearing up to make a major come back in the next few years. Use colour wisely with natural accessories, as too much of both can come across as overbearing and strong.
